Vacation & Floating Days

 

 

Based on the 2024–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement

 

 

 

 

Q: How many vacation days do I receive?

 

 

Answer:

 

Vacation eligibility is based on years of continuous service:

 

  • 1–5 years: 10 vacation days

  • 6–14 years: 15 vacation days

  • 15–19 years: 20 vacation days

  • 20+ years: 21 vacation days

 

 

Vacation is prorated during your first year of employment.

 

 

 

 

Q: Is there a minimum work requirement to receive full vacation?

 

 

Answer:

 

Yes. To receive the full vacation benefit, you must have worked at least 200 days during the preceding calendar year.

 

The following count toward the 200-day requirement:

 

  • Paid personal leave

  • Court leave

  • Funeral leave

  • Sick leave

  • Paid holidays

  • Union business leave

 

 

If fewer than 200 days are worked, vacation is prorated.

 

 

 

 

Q: How does the vacation pick process work?

 

 

Answer:

 

  • Vacation pick is conducted in October.

  • The schedule is posted at least one week prior to the pick.

  • Employees are allowed 10 minutes to make their selection.

  • Picks are made in seniority order.

  • If absent during pick, you must stay in contact or designate a Union representative in writing.

  • If you miss your pick, you select from remaining available weeks.

 

 

 

 

 

Q: Can vacation weeks be exchanged between employees?

 

 

Answer:

 

Yes. Vacation weeks may be exchanged, but written approval is required from:

 

  • Pace

  • The employees involved

  • The Union

 

 

 

 

 

Q: What happens if a holiday falls during my vacation?

 

 

Answer:

 

If a recognized paid holiday falls during your vacation, you may:

 

  • Receive holiday pay, or

  • Take an additional day off within 30 days

 

 

If no agreement is reached, holiday pay will be provided.

 

 

 

 

Floating Personal Leave Days

 

 

 

 

 

Q: How many floating personal leave days do I receive?

 

 

Answer:

 

After completing 12 months of continuous service, full-time employees receive five (5) floating personal leave days per calendar year.

 

 

 

 

Q: How are floating days approved?

 

 

Answer:

 

  • Requests must be submitted at least five (5) days in advance.

  • No more than nine (9) operators may be off on any given day.

  • No more than three (3) operators may be off the day before or after a closed holiday.

  • Requests are approved on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • If multiple requests are received at the same time, seniority determines priority.

 

 

 

 

 

Q: When can I submit floating day requests?

 

 

Answer:

 

Requests for the upcoming year may be submitted beginning the first weekday in December.

 

Requests are time-stamped and processed in order received.

 

 

 

 

Q: What happens if I do not use my floating days?

 

 

Answer:

 

Unused floating personal leave days are paid out at your regular rate.

 

Payment is issued within 60 days after January 1.

 

You must apply for payout before January 15, or payment may be forfeited.

 

 

 

 

Q: Can I withdraw from the floating leave program once selected?

 

 

Answer:

 

No. Once selected, you may not withdraw from the program during the calendar year.

 

 

 

 

Q: Do shuttle van drivers count toward the 9-operator daily maximum?

 

 

Answer:

 

No. Shuttle van driver days off do not count toward the 9-operator maximum.

 

 

 

 

Q: Can I lose a floating day due to discipline?

 

 

Answer:

 

For maintenance employees using VRDs (Vacation Random Days), discipline does not cause forfeiture. The day must be rescheduled.
